My philosophy of therapy and change: I believe that therapy is not “one-size fits all” as every person is unique in their background and how their experiences have impacted them. I practice from a person-centered and solution focused brief therapy approach while utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques. I have been thoroughly trained over the course of three years in Motivation Interviewing; supervised and coded by a Master Certified MI Coach. I also strongly believe in the Mind/Body Connection and how our mental state impacts our physical well-being. Given this connection, I utilize Biofeedback as an incredibly useful therapeutic tool to incorporate along with traditional therapy as it trains the patient, with regular practice, to better control their emotional reactions that lead to physical symptoms.
My Experience: I have over a decade of experience within the mental health and addictions treatment fields working with children, adolescents, teens, adults, and geriatric ages. While working towards the completion of my MA in Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University, I began my career in an inpatient psychiatric and detox treatment setting while working part time in a residential treatment facility. I eventually transitioned to outpatient addictions where I spend several years working with dually diagnosed adolescents and adults. I also have worked as a school counselor part time, assisting middle and high school students. Given my background in Behavioral Neuroscience, I have been trained in Biofeedback as well as psychological evaluation and achievement testing methods to address psychological functioning and academic achievement. I also possess thorough experience working in end of life care; providing therapeutic support to patients and families facing advanced illnesses.
