My philosophy of therapy and change: As a therapist I firmly believe that people “do the best they can and can still do better”. Many times people engage in ineffective behaviors as a means to survive and get their needs met. However there comes a point in time where these ineffective behaviors are no longer meeting a person’s needs and become destructive. I take a non- judgmental approach to help clients gain insight into their patterns of ineffective thinking and behaviors and then work with clients to create new patterns that will allow them to live the life they wish to live. I believe therapy is a collaborative process in which you are the expert on yourself, and I teach and employ skills from evidence based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
My Experience: I entered the mental health field in 2013 and received the majority of my clinical experience working with clients with eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and EDNOS) at the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient level of care. I have experience working closely with a multidisciplinary team made up of therapists, dieticians, medication providers, and primary care physicians to ensure coordination of client care. I am passionate about educating the community about eating disorders and have provided education to schools in Monmouth and Ocean County, as well as worked alongside of the Alliance of Eating Disorder Awareness in West Palm Beach, FL. I am a Licensed Associate Counselor and received my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the College of New Jersey and my Bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Communications from Plan Beach Atlantic University. I have received training in DBT, mindfulness, CBT, and eating disorders.
